Review on Actron CP7830 Vacuum Pump for Handheld Applications by Tim Ram

Built to fail! DO NOT BUY.

Built to fail! DO NOT BUY. The design is fundamentally flawed: when you squeeze the handle and the piston retracts, ALL the force goes to one thing - a tiny, weak rivet that attaches the piston rod to the handle. This is a HUGE design flaw and must be intentional as a simple pole and stylus or other standard device would work just fine. This is Engineering 101, any idiot should know that. I can't believe he accidentally went through the design and review process without anyone noticing. So the logical conclusion is that it is destined to fail. It's only a matter of time before (as many people have noticed) the rivets come loose during pumping. In order to do a professional repair, you cannot do without welding the cap on - and who has a precision arc welder at home? This is a POS pump and you should stay away from it - waste of money. You might get lucky and it will last a year or two if you rarely use it. but it's only a matter of time. Oh, and by the way, Revain has a 30-day return policy. So you're more of a SOL when it comes to getting your money back.

Pros
  • Amazing
Cons
  • Mostly OK, but...
