I bought Aquacoat to fill an ash guitar body with grit. I applied two coats and sanded lightly with 220 grit in between and after. I now have two problems: (1) The pores are not filled. I'm not sure, maybe I applied it wrong - I rubbed it with a rag - or maybe Aquacoat shrinks more than I thought. Significantly worse: (2) Excess Aquacoat dries to a cloudy residue. It's supposedly easy to sand off this residue, but I've found it impossible to sand it off without sanding off the shellac sealer underneath and with it some of the paint underneath the sealer. The end result is that pores are not filled and my finish is ruined. Now I have to sand everything down and start over. I won't fill the pores this time. If I had known this was going to happen I would not have bought Aquacoat at all. I would only recommend it if you really know what you're doing and/or don't have anything between the wood (but then your paint/stain won't lay down evenly).
