Needed something to cover the back door to prevent glare on the TV during the afternoon. This curtain is thick and stops 98% of all light! I do not see a glare at all on my screen, and I can barely see a glow at the edges when I look directly at the curtain. Your smoke detector LED will glow brighter than this. I love how simple the design is as well; I didn't want a set of blinds that would take 40+ seconds to open and would be a pain to clean. I personally like to roll mine up into the velcro bands instead of the french folds, but you can do it however you like.
