This works well in the space we wanted it for. Ask the manufacturer to create a 3500K version. Neutral white light 3500K is the best light for most applications. 2700K is good for sleepy places like the bedroom. 5000K is good for photography but totally unsuitable for other purposes. 3000K is well suited for transitional areas such as hallways, entryways or bathrooms. 3500K is best for general active space. Be careful though, as some tubes claim 3000K when they're still a lot closer to the sleepy 2700K. They /make/ turn the way you want them to. Suggest turning them roughly in the right direction before heading up the stairs. The springs are very firm as other reviewers have said. Suggest bending them forward before walking up the stairs to relieve tension. Then place them in the jar very carefully so you don't accidentally bend the hooks in the jar. The light color is good. The first one we received had one of the springs deformed so it didn't seat properly in the housing, allowing the can to be seen. We sent it back for a replacement because I otherwise liked it and the second one was fine and the glass closes properly.
