Review on πŸ”Œ Griffin AutoPilot Charger for iPod and iPhone (Optimized 2010 Packaging) by Jarrod Zuvers

Charging + great sound quality

I had an earlier version from 2009 but the dock connector was crooked so I ordered this new one. With the older one in my Volkswagen GTI, I heard a click about every 10 seconds when listening to music very quietly - it's very distracting when you're trying to immerse yourself in a track. (This won't be noticeable when listening to pop/rock music.) I leave the low/high gain switch in the high position. Regardless, that ugly repetitive clicking sound is now gone on this model! When ordering I also found this Kensington AUX Noise Canceling Car Audio Cable for MP3 or Smartphones including iPhone 4S to solve this problem but in the end I didn't need it. (However, keep it and use it anyway). All in all, this device is great. When I plug an iPod directly into my VW, the iPhone is replaced with an "accessory-connected" screen that forces you to use its dangerously slow touch interface. But luckily if you use this device, you can get around that as it powers your car's Aux port. (Perfect). When you unplug the dock connector, your iPhone pauses music playback. The previous/pause/next buttons are great because unlike the iPhone's touchscreen, the physical pause button is easier to find by touch and quick to press without taking your eyes off the road. This is especially handy if you're using the Maps app for GPS navigation or whatever and don't want to switch between apps. The dock connector is so flat that it slips in easily even though I have a case on my iPhone 4S. The only downside is when I get a call on my iPhone I have to turn it off to talk. What ever. If you have an iPhone/iPod and an aux jack in your car, there's no reason not to get one.
