3Mbps to 57Mbps - Too easy to be true

I have Xfinity Blast 50Mbps Internet to my house - the coaxial entrance to the house was in the back room, and here it was installed the modem. My main TV/DVR and BlueRay with Netflix were in the main room of the house about 50 feet from the wifi router. When I tried to stream videos from Netflix or Revain, it kept stopping to reload the video. I ran some speed tests and only got about 3Mbps from the wireless signal. I installed the Powerline AV 500 in less than 10 minutes. I connected the main unit to a grounded 5-outlet wall adapter (IMPORTANT) - connected the ethernet line to the cable modem. Then, in the same room, I plugged in a 4-port powerline adapter to make sure they were connected. Bingo! I took the 4 port power supply to the main room next to the entertainment center and plugged it into a standard outlet - bingo again! I connected my Apple Airport Wireless Router/Blueray Player/Dish Hopper DVR and TV to the 4-port adapter and reconfigured the devices to use the Ethernet adapter instead of the wireless signal and tested everything. The signal was MUCH better but still not up to 50Mbps. I went back to the original setup and plugged the Powerline AV 500 from the 5-outlet wall adapter into a standard outlet and tested again. This time my signal was amazing - I ran the speed test again and got 57Mbps in and 11.7Mbps out. Problem solved! I STRONGLY recommend this if you're trying to extend your internet connection where the wireless signal just won't cut it.

Pros
  • There's something to it
Cons
  • Not trendy
