Review on ⏰ Philips AJ3116W White FM Digital Alarm Clock Radio by Kyle Mack

It was the product designer's "Blaze of Glory " before he left

Save money. PROS: Large display with a choice between Light and Dim. That's why I bought it, but I didn't realize all the flaws until I received it. POOH. Let me count the possibilities: 1) CONTROL. All controls are via seven rice grain-sized buttons, all the same size, the same shape, all in a row and all at the top of the display where they can't be identified unless you're looking at them and you have a light to read them. Phillips, did you know that when people wake up, they see this eye to eye? WOW! 2) DISPLAY. Flashing colon on display. Solved by using pieces of tape on it. 3) VOLUME. When switched on it is set to Philips and is always LOUD. The default value cannot be changed, so the radio must always be tuned in manually. 4) VOLUME #2. Even on the quietest settings, it's still too loud. 5) PRESET STATIONS. How do I delete an incorrectly set station? I can't find an answer to this question either. 6) FRONT STATIONS #2. To change preset stations, you have to cycle through all ten to find the one you want, and remember which station was tuned to which number. this. when switching stations are displayed as "P01, P02, P03”. Station identification takes five seconds before the numbers change from "P01" to station frequencies. 7) FM only? My local NBA team and varsity sports are on the AM radio station. I knew this was happening, but was it so difficult or expensive that AM had to be eliminated? Philips saved. And my #1 complaint?. 8) It is difficult to understand that the product is designed in this way. The alarm clock radio volume is factory set to HIGH. IT IS NOT POSSIBLE to change the volume to a lower volume by default. There is a DIY workaround on YouTube for disassembling the clock and soldering in the diode. Maybe Philips will refund my soldering kit? I don't know what century it was developed in, but modern electronics are designed to be at least minimally customizable to the user's preferences. Phillips failed. From all angles this Philips product represents one of the worst electronic product designs I have come across.

Pros
  • . Fingers crossed
Cons
