Review on πŸš› Mophorn Double Acting Hydraulic Trailer by Mario Schultz

Revainrating 4 out of 5

Know your hardware!

My rating is for double acting, 6 qt. Block of steel tanks. The device arrived as described (usually more on that later). Well packed in a box, looks like it was delivered cash on delivery. It looks like the unit is coated in some sort of packaging grease or oil to prevent corrosion. All details are intact and nothing is lost. All welds on the tank look correct, no leaks yet. The block works as intended. Thick red wire to battery positive. Thick black wire from the stud on the motor housing to the battery negative terminal. I removed one star because all descriptions of these hydraulic units are misleading. The fittings are not SAE but 1/4” BSPP – British Standard parallel pipe fittings. You are NOT NPT. While 1/4-inch NPT threads can "match," the threads in the device's body are parallel or "straight," not tapered. Parallel threads are more common in hydraulic systems because they rely on a gasket or o-ring to seal and are generally easier to service than tapered threads, which require compression on the threaded surfaces, which can damage the thread to seal properly. While you can force tapered threads into parallel threads and use teflon tape or sealant, you're better off doing it right and buying an adapter without damaging the threads. Yes, it's an additional cost, but it's part of the DIY! You can buy BSPP adapters for "your fittings" from a number of places online if you can't find what you need here on Amazon or your local hydraulic store. I spent about $10 on two fittings to match the fittings on the unit to my application, which made things a lot easier. If you don't know what you're doing, your local hydraulics dealer will happily take your money to make things work for you.
