I have been a woodcarver for over 50 years and my main woodcarving is linden. In addition to my passion for wood carving, I have been making wood carving knives for other carvers for 38 years. This taught me that two things are necessary for quality carving. You need a knife that is sharp and stays sharp. You'll also need a good piece of wood to work with. When I'm done making a carving knife, the first thing I do is take a piece of basswood and test the blade against it. So I work with Basswood every day. One thing I know is that not all Basswoods are created equal. Over the years I've encountered a wide range of hardness levels. Some of them are as hard as a walnut, making them difficult to work with and resulting in dull edges. However, carving a really good piece of linden is a pleasure. I ran out of basswood so I decided to order this wood to test. I can honestly say that this is one of the best limes I've ever tasted. If I run out of this batch I will be back for more.
