I recently completed a preamp project and made a mistake on a small dt05 op amp board that was soldered to the motherboard. This op amp board is soldered with 6 pins so desoldering was a nightmare. I've tried soldering a wick, soldering a suction cup, etc. and nothing has worked. It just wouldn't go away. I spent almost $500 on this kit, so I didn't want to spend it all on a $10 op amp kit that had to be stripped out and rebuilt. I love Hakko products so I took a chance and tried this soldering iron. It's expensive but I thought it would be an investment that will always come in handy in the future. It is really well made and comes in a nice case. I pocketed it and touched the first pin, pulled the trigger and literally saw the solder fly into the chamber. I wasn't sure if it worked the way I hoped but I did the same with the other pins and the op amp board came loose for the first time. With a tiny wiggle I was able to slide it out and saved my entire project from failing! It was worth the money in my opinion and saves you the trouble of overheating areas to constantly try to remove solder that could damage components etc. I love it!
