Compared to the original valve which was deformed and torn although the old one lasted about 16 months I'm not sure how long the plastic valves are supposed to last. This is a much better product, I have a double door in the wall and will be ordering a second one. The magnet is much stronger and the heavier plastic snaps securely into place. hopefully this one doesn't warp like the other one. I have two big dogs that are always banging on the door so they pushed really hard on the old door. I'll continue my review in a few months so you know how it's holding up.
