This receiver was a replacement for a Pioneer receiver from the 90's. A pair of Sony bookshelf speakers would shake the whole neighborhood. I've had this stereo since I was a kid and one day it just wouldn't turn on. Shortly thereafter I bought this receiver as a replacement because I needed good music in my life. First I connected everything and was excited for my first song. It doesn't seem to be working. So I checked all the connections and tried again. To find out, you need to turn up the volume a bit to get sound. And when I did, I found that the quality of this receiver was a bit lacking. Sounds flat. The bass is non-existent and simply lacks the clarity or power of my old stereo. I almost wanted to cry! Although, to be honest, everything else in it is great. Pioneer hit the nail on the head with features and price. But now I'm wondering if 6 ohm speakers would be better than 8 ohm speakers? Does this stereo system now only need a subwoofer? I do not know. Maybe one day I'll find out. I really want to give him a fair chance. If anyone has any advice please leave a comment. In the meantime, I must say that everything is fine with this receiver. UPDATE: A year later I finally spent some extra money and bought a subwoofer. This improved the sound a lot, so I'm adding a star. I'm still not happy that the extra cost of a subwoofer is practically a must. Also, it still seems to be a relatively weak system. You won't throw a party or bother the neighbors with this thing. But everything written in it sounds very good. I can honestly say that I am very happy with it now.
