NOT 10 Gauge!: Lighting & Electrical

B01DYPY0E4 I have now purchased "10 Pack - EPAuto 12V-DC ATC/ATO 12 AWG In-Line 30A Fuse Holder", both from "EPFamily Direct" sold. My first picture shows that the stranded wire is only 2.44mm in diameter which puts it closer to 13 gauge, a similar 10 gauge stranded wire is 3.3mm in diameter. My second photo has 105 strands of 34 gauge wire, making my purchase a 13 gauge wire. This is about the 7th time I've encountered this problem when trying to find stranded wire that is even close to 10 gauge. Unless the gauge I need is printed on the wire insulation itself, I've learned from experience it would be dangerous to go small. Perhaps the Chinese use different wire gauge standards than the US, but millimeters should be the same in both countries. Even if my "10 gauge" purchase was 10 gauge solid wire, the true diameter of a solid wire would be 2.59mm, and stranded wire would always have a larger diameter than solid wire of the same gauge due to air gaps between the wires stranded wires . I'm not sure about EPFamily Direct's 12 gauge wire diameter, but at least they don't advertise 10 gauge wire anymore. A helpful "AWG Chart for Solid and Stranded Wires" can be found at www.Calmont.com. It's always a good idea to add some dielectric grease, such as B. ASIN: B000AL8VD2, to be applied to the metallic fuse contacts unless it is intended to be used in completely dry conditions, even then it will prevent the fuse from sticking to the fuse contacts, making replacement much easier. Pulling the guts out of the fuse holders sticking to the fuse itself is no good.
