My 2008 Suburban (5.3L) was burning oil, most obviously (and annoyingly) with a large puff of smoke when starting the engine. Read online that a new valve cover with a relocated PCV port (moved into the cover rather than out) can help with both starting and normal oil consumption while driving. Bought the valve cover and installed it. Results: no more large clouds of smoke at start-up and less oil burn between oil changes. This part definitely stopped the smoke on take off and I actually burn less oil. Not sure if this helps with oil consumption during normal driving as it fixed a starting issue but it definitely helped in my situation. I would recommend this replacement part if your 2008 Suburban (or equivalent GM 5.3L car) has a similar problem.
