The original grid in my softener's brine tank literally fell apart after almost four decades of service. This replacement is a much stronger poly plastic deck made from the same material as the tank so should last forever. It works and fits very well after some work. First, there are a few dozen perforations on the deck that were not formed. This probably won't be critical to its performance, but I drilled them to give the deck a fully perforated configuration. Second, the four "legs" positioned that held the deck off the bottom of the tank, the deck about an inch lower than the one it replaced, so I raised it with some sort of PVC pipe. Installing "stands" under these legs to provide the same amount of brine that will be below deck as before. Finally, the 4 inch diameter hole in the side of the deck was missing. It had to be large enough for the float valve riser to pass through. I cut the riser wall a few inches so it compresses enough circumferentially to squeeze through a 4" hole in the deck and provide the necessary support for the float valve assembly. I ran about 4 regeneration cycles on the softener and the brine tank appeared. work satisfactorily.
