Good replacement head unit for low power applications

I got this head unit to replace the stock Toyota CD player in our 2005 Matrix (old wheels I know but love this little car). The existing device had an internal amplifier and four speakers. Here are my installation observations: 1. Although the pre-drilled holes in this block fit two of the Toyota mounting brackets, the block was slightly wider than the stock block meaning it did not fit those brackets. Likewise, the small universal mounts that came with the unit did not fit or replace Toyota mounts. In the end I attached the block to the front panel (see below)2. I ordered an aftermarket fascia kit to adjust the fascia sides - a fairly common issue on this year's Toyota and Subaru. They fit well on the sides of the device; However, I had to shave off the Toyota faceplate by about 1/16" to fit it on top. The frame is NOT removable - I've tried. 3. I've also ordered a harness adapter to use standard ISO outlets on this one unit to go to toyota matrix wiring looms and hooked it up to the supplied wiring loom all the wires in the supplied wiring loom are labeled and labeled which was a nice touch I would highly recommend that if you can manage it reduce the number of wire connections in the box Auto on one or zero (more on that below). On the video cable is for this, it needs to be connected to the "Back In" on the head unit and a +12v cable to the rear light to display video. If you plan ahead, you can make these connections before installing the wiring harness and video cable but i didn't and ended up hooking it up in the vehicle.I ended up having to add about 2 feet of length to get to the reverse lights to get to. I have no idea why there is a ring of LEDs on the camera. If you install the camera in the car behind the rear window, there is only terrible glare. I ended up sealing them with tape. And now the notes on the operation. 1. It takes up to 15 seconds for the device to boot up. Sometimes it wouldn't boot properly if I connected a USB cable to my Android phone, so I have a habit of plugging my phone in AFTER the device fully boots up. Otherwise - just a blank black screen that doesn't respond to touch.2. The unit will get warm when running on four speakers as it has minimal ventilation and no active fans. Not sure how this affects durability.3. The equalizer is only available in radio mode - you cannot access it via autoplay (e.g. Android Auto/CarPlay). This is a silly mistake. I had to switch back to the radio to fiddle with the equalizer, even though I bought this unit specifically for Android Auto.4. The only volume controls you get are tiny buttons on the left. I have attached a photo with my finger size for reference. They're flush with the bezel, so if you have even a slight overlap with the bezel, like mine, they're a bit hidden. The supplied microphone is OK, but not perfect.6. Android Auto is only available via a wired connection, which can be used as a charger. Not a determining factor, but WiFi would be nice. A nice extra: when reverse gear is engaged, the volume decreases automatically - a great help for concentration when parking. After setting up the equalizer and getting used to waiting for the device to boot up before plugging in the phone, this was a really nice inexpensive upgrade to my old device. Android Auto works flawlessly and the stock speakers sound much better with this unit's EQ capabilities compared to the OEM. Since I wouldn't be interested in spending a lot of money on a 16 year old car (disclaimer: this product was free in exchange for a review), this decision fitted my intent perfectly.
