I work in an open-plan office that many people walk through every day. As with many places like this, I suspect the theft was an occasional crime rather than a major burglary. So this lock does a great job of deterring the casual thief. It's just a lot easier to steal from the table next to me where nothing is locked than from my table. The Kensington lock does an excellent job of that – five stars. It won't stop a serious burglar who brings a bolt cutter, but if he or she is so invested they can take my monitor and mouse.
