These are not shoes in the usual sense. These are elastic socks with a rigid sole attached to the bottom. Please see the photos which should be part of this review. I hope they illustrate the text here. I pulled the laces out of several of the eyelets in a photo to show that the upper of the shoe is one piece and not the traditional soft shoe with a large relief covered by the laces. In conventional lace-up shoes, the tongue protects the top of the wearer's foot from abrasion from the laces. With this shoe, the foot insertion hole is tiny compared to the regular tongue/lace shoes on the side. This is not a problem if the material is elastic enough. It's not like this. To test, I removed the laces from both shoes, put them on with great effort, replaced the laces, and then wore them all day. I tried using the heel loop to make it easier to put them on. Even with modest efforts, the loop tightened, as can be seen in the photo. The good news is that they meet the manufacturer's requirements. They are surprisingly comfortable, apart from the fact that they are small in length. I didn't find them particularly wide, but difficult to tell due to the stretch. I would call them D+ or E-. Please look at the photo where both shoes are side by side. You can easily see how small the foot insertion hole is on these shoes compared to regular lace-up shoes. Also note that the length of these two shoes is so different that I thought it was a size 9, but they are marked a 10 (Euro 43) just like the orange shoe. Finally, note that they are straight, unlike the curved last of the orange shoe. I am not diabetic. My feet and ankles are not swollen like many who suffer from this disease. So I'm more likely to find it easier to put on these shoes than people with diabetes, obesity, or congestive heart disease. Given the laces, there's no reason for a small foot opening or a short overall length, but if there is, how about at least 50% more stretch? Under the circumstances, I can't recommend them and I'm not entirely sure I'll ever want to wear them again.
