Works very well. I put it against a wall with no problems. We flipped it because of a family member who isn't good at holding things with their right hand and it still works really well. I used longer screws than the ones that came with the sharpener because the ones that came with them looked too small to hold well. It sharpens pencils very well and they are all-round aligned. The sharpener makes a different sound and sense of resistance after the pencil finishes sharpening. Pencils come out much better than an electric sharpener. I gave our electric away as soon as I saw how good it was. As an added bonus, kids love it a lot. They can't wait to sharpen every pencil in the house.
