Old school design that works

I don't know if this is exactly the same design as it was in my elementary school 40 years ago but it works the way it is. Ideal for sharpening pencils. Sometimes it will eat through the pencil non-stop when the lead is sharp, and you have to stop when you find you're sharpening too long. But this is a minor annoyance and most of the time it works great. Much better than the little plastic parts we keep losing or the battery powered option.

I like it better than electric

Works very well. I put it against a wall with no problems. We flipped it because of a family member who isn't good at holding things with their right hand and it still works really well. I used longer screws than the ones that came with the sharpener because the ones that came with them looked too small to hold well. It sharpens pencils very well and they are all-round aligned. The sharpener makes a different sound and sense of resistance after the pencil finishes sharpening. Pencils come outโ€ฆ

The only pencil sharpener you can buy

Twist the handle a few times while inserting the pencil and get tactile feedback on sharpening performance. When the resistance wears off, pull out a perfectly sharpened tool to slay dragons with your literary and compositional wit. Seriously, this sharpener has two spiral cutters 180 degrees apart that sharpen pencils perfectly. This sharpener is in my garage. We have an electric sharpener in our home office. When we need to sharpen a pencil, we go to the workshop instead of using the handyโ€ฆ

Very impressed with this pencil sharpener

I had an old plastic pencil sharpener for many years and decided it was time to replace it when it stopped sharpening my pencils. I found this pencil sharpener and couldn't be happier. I didn't realize how terrible my old sharpener was until I started using this one. First, it's not plastic, it's metal. Second, the blades are sharp! Insert that pencil and 3 or 4 turns of the handle and you have a gun. Very sharp point. So sharp I thought it would break when using a pencil, but it doesn't. Maybe

Pros
  • Good workmanship
Cons
  • Factor Set

I like this pencil sharpener. I work a lot with wood and it's all about the accuracy of the cut and the leveling. I need a very good pencil sharpener. I have had a number of 3 other sharpeners which all had issues e.g. B. one where the pencil is wobbly, one where the sharpener only grinds the pencil down to 3 inches, and another where what catches the shavings keeps falling off. In selecting this pencil sharpener, I gave up the option of using custom-sized pencils (I don't use them at all) andโ€ฆ

Works great, pointy but not centered on handle

I work a lot with wood and need a sharp pencil to mark the material. I'm tired of searching my shop for small plastic and metal pencil sharpeners and the fact that they usually give me a sharp edge but tend to break before they get sharp. It works well. I decided to take this model instead of the adjustable one because I thought it would be more accurate and give me a spot centered on the line. Well, it gives me a very sharp point, but it's off-center. It tends to be slightly off-center. Notโ€ฆ

Pros
  • Die-cast metal base with steel chip catcher
Cons
  • old

I am an elementary school teacher and have been using the school electric sharpener for many years. They typically didn't last more than two months before they broke, wouldn't sharpen, or the gears made a loud grinding noise. The students worked for several minutes before reaching an acceptable score. On September 17th I decided to see what was available in "old school" crank sharpeners. I settled on an X-Acto 1041 (didn't want students fiddling with the selector on the front) and ordered 2 out

  • All-metal construction
