Review on ➰ ARRIS SURFboard SBG7400AC2 DOCSIS 3.0 Cable Modem & AC2350 Dual-Band Wi-Fi Router - Cox, Spectrum, Xfinity Compatible (Black) by Anne Miller

Revainrating 4 out of 5

Same exact speed as the Xfinity, if not better, in a smaller size. Some band issues

Speed test with the same server point on 2.4GHz and 5GHz before switching from an Xfinity provided device to this new Arris and the results were almost identical. Approximately 179Mbps download speed and 11.4Mbps upload speed at 5GHz for both 150Mbps Blast+ services. But with 2.4 GHz. With 3 2.4GHz tests on a standard device I got about 58.2Mbps download and 10.8Mbps upload each time, and on Arris I got 57 downloads on the first test and the next two were about 110 ! Might be a godsend with variables on the test server etc but 2.4Ghz seems to be better on Arris! I love that it's made of matte plastic on all sides compared to the Xfinity. Thus there are no fingerprints and dust is less visible! CONS: The only issue I noticed after a few weeks of use is that the down-facing antenna's range is almost non-existent compared to a standard Xfinity modem. I live on 1050 sqm. ft., and with Arris in the upper left room (2nd floor) I now only have 1 bar/no wifi in the kitchen (lower right, 1st floor). I haven't tried the opposite setup with Arris on the ground floor to see if the uplink range is better, but if range is important to you or you have 2 floors I suggest trying this on the ground floor or with one to go to another unit. UPDATE: In a new 660 square foot apartment on the ground floor. I'm losing signal in the next room, just 10 feet down the hall from my bedroom. Also, the weaker signal only comes through a wall into my living room. Definitely not suitable for a large house. I hope they fix this with FW in the future. It's great when you're close, but stand back and you can watch the signal start dropping bars - those LEDs are BRIGHT too! I put black paper tape on the front LEDs, which worked well for the displays, but the open vents on the top of the unit let in a lot of blue light, basically the blue pattern of a tennis racket projected onto your wall. So be prepared to find a closet for the entertainment center to close, etc.
