The connection kept dropping and had to be restarted.

Switching from a Comcast rental modem to an Arris surfboard was a disaster. Arris kept disconnecting and support didn't help. I switched to this Motorola MG7700 24X8 and it was great. I pay Comcast/Xfinity for 200Mbps download and 20Mbps upload. I got about 50 Mbps down and 8 up. Now I'm getting around 250Mbps and 24Mbps. And these tests are conducted over Wi-Fi, not a wired connection.

Pros
  • Consistent test results
Cons
  • No performance

Faulty hardware and no warranty

The modem has 4 LAN ports that just turn themselves off. You must unplug/plug the modem to restore communication. All modem LEDs are lit, but there is no internet connection. Every time I log into the modem I get two annoying messages asking me to subscribe to McAfee and register the modem. Selecting "Don't show this window again" and "Stop asking" doesn't fix annoying messages or cause the modem to restart multiple times. Revain was unable to provide warranty information after two calls, and…

Xfinity is a reliable, stable connection

Like many others, I wasn't thrilled with the idea of paying $12 a month to rent a modem when I could buy one and do it pay in less than a year. My first client model was Netgear, but it failed and my search for a new modem/router combo began. I chose this particular model for several reasons: First, it had the best customer reviews. Second, it offered the best WiFi coverage. Third, it's 24x8, which means it'll still work if I upgrade to gigabit internet in the future. Overall Wi-Fi signal is…

Fast, reliable, USB connection is amazing!

I've had it for a few months so thought it would be a good time to use and review it. Set up was easy as usual. Plug it in and call the internet company Cox. in my case. A few minutes after we gave them some information about the device and waited for the lights to come on, the internet was back! Our last modem/router was also "ac" but wasn't as fast and couldn't handle as many devices. .We have a Smart TV, 2 iPhones, 2 iPads, a MacBook Pro and devices from visiting family and friends. Not many

Do your research if you need handy parental controls

Ethernet works. What helps. WiFi works. phew It's good. I wish there was a handy app to manage WiFi access for all connected devices. This saves me from paying $11 a month to a cable company to rent a modem. Software designed to help parents control their internet usage is difficult to set up and use. Arris has McAfee Secure Home Internet and you should be able to download the app on your phone and see the devices connected to your WiFi. I couldn't see a connected device. Forget ARRIS support…

Pros
  • Lots of good vibes
Cons
  • Weak

Speed test with the same server point on 2.4GHz and 5GHz before switching from an Xfinity provided device to this new Arris and the results were almost identical. Approximately 179Mbps download speed and 11.4Mbps upload speed at 5GHz for both 150Mbps Blast+ services. But with 2.4 GHz. With 3 2.4GHz tests on a standard device I got about 58.2Mbps download and 10.8Mbps upload each time, and on Arris I got 57 downloads on the first test and the next two were about 110 ! Might be a godsend with…
