Switching from a Comcast rental modem to an Arris surfboard was a disaster. Arris kept disconnecting and support didn't help. I switched to this Motorola MG7700 24X8 and it was great. I pay Comcast/Xfinity for 200Mbps download and 20Mbps upload. I got about 50 Mbps down and 8 up. Now I'm getting around 250Mbps and 24Mbps. And these tests are conducted over Wi-Fi, not a wired connection.
