Ok but we were happy to replace it

We bought this as our first DVD-R and it was delicate and slow. We replaced it with a Panasonic last year and found it performed better, but it has the benefit of updated technology. This takes forever and is set to VCR by default. We mainly use a DVD player so this was very annoying. If you're thinking of buying one of these, keep looking.

Happy buyer good for tv and video

I previously bought a Samsung VCR/DVD player and was really impressed with its quality. In fact, the VCR player plays old VHS tapes so well that I couldn't watch them on my other VCR players. I wanted a DVD burner to convert my large video collection to DVDs and have bought and returned several DVD burners because they turned out to be absolute junk. When Samsung released their own combo recorder I took a chance and so far so good. The moment I opened the box and found the quick setup guide inโ€ฆ

Save yourself the frustration and buy another brand

I actually have an older Samsung DVD player and like other Samsung models back then I had a terrible skipping problem on a lot of DVDs. Samsung support was almost non-existent - I found out there was a firmware update for the player, not through their website (where I couldn't find any help) but through a friend with the same problem. HOWEVER, updating the firmware didn't fix the problem and the last thing I heard is that a class action lawsuit was filed here in Pennsylvania (which I receivedโ€ฆ

Very delicate machine

I could only play one of the five DVDs I made on this machine. Everything looked fine when recording from a connected camcorder, the picture appeared on the TV when scrolling through the DVD/VCR, the record light was on well, once the DVD was finished on Samsung it played well. But when I try to play on my Sony Vaio or Apple iMac, all I get is a still black screen. When I recorded onto DVD-RW from a videotape inserted into a VCR, I was able to play back the result on my Sony. But the next tapeโ€ฆ

Poor remote and input connections

I returned this product (and bought the Panasonic DMR-ES30VS) for two main reasons. First, the remote control is almost unresponsive. You need to point it at exactly the right spot on the device for it to work. As such, the keys tend to be repeatedly pressed at "different" angles just to get a response. This is VERY annoying and will drive you crazy! I thought maybe the batteries that came with the remote control are bad.? but the replacement set was no better. Then, when I saw other reviews of

Very good!

I bought this unit to salvage data from my TiVo and to copy some old VHS tapes to DVD. So far, so good! I've made about 20 DVDs. The only problem I had was when I was trying to copy a movie from VHS to DVD (this movie isn't out on DVD yet) and I couldn't copy it because it's copyrighted. I really wanted to make a DVD out of it since it's no longer available. Another nice touch is the DV input on the front. I have a Canon Mini DV camcorder and was able to transfer video directly from theโ€ฆ

It's good if you understand its features

I realized that this device is fine once I understood its little quirks. It's a little embarrassing, but the problems are solvable. First to hard drives. I have found that my device loves Memorex DVD-RW 2x and Fujifilm DVD-R 8x. Once you've found a drive brand that works reliably, stick with it. Second, about the record. I have found that the device sometimes has trouble reading DVD-RW discs that are 100% filled with data. For example, if I recorded 2 hours of video at 2 hour speed (SP), theโ€ฆ
