I ordered these to hang in place of a closet door and they are fairly sheer so that you kind of see what's on the other but I am very happy with them. I would assume that if hung on a window they would allow light to shine in but would probably be more opaque if hung on a wall. None of my crystals were broken, I dropped one while hanging them and it broke, but there were 4 extras so it was fine. I have never installed a light fixture before. It was very simple, the instructions were not super helpful but it was common sense and I got it installed just fine by myself!
