Review on ๐Ÿ›ข๏ธ Efficiently Monitor Oil Levels with the Dorman-917-008 Black Oil Level Dip Stick by James Mcphearson

Revainrating 1 out of 5

Very fragile: spare parts

This is a cheap dipstick, but it's better to get a more durable one, even if it costs a little more. This plastic material on the probe handle is very poorly constructed and will start to crack after at least a month of use. I don't really understand how a cheap plastic grip can even stand up to the heat of the engine, it really does seem so unstable. I bought two of these, the first time the grip actually broke/melted and the stick was still stuck in the motor tube it cost me $100 to have a mechanic remove it. I thought maybe it was just a faulty probe so I ordered another one of the same kind. and I'm having very similar results as the part where the stick attaches to the handle has already snapped after only about 2 months of use. In general, don't get that dipstick, shop around and buy something that will hold up better even if it costs a little more.

Pros
  • High marks for grip and durability from the testers
Cons
  • boring packaging
