These are blunt needles with large eyes, ideal for weaving yarn ends into your work when you have finished crocheting or knitting. They're metal, so they don't break as easily as plastic. The eyes are quite large, suitable for lace, finger and children's yarn. You may be able to thread sport yarn through the eyelet if it's not too fluffy or pimply, but I wouldn't count on that. (They make bigger needles for heavier yarns.) Just a note: some threads are easier to fall out of the eye with these needles because the metal is smooth and the eyelets are very smooth. Plastic yarn hooks have square grommets, so they have edges that "hook" the yarn and hold it in place. They don't, which means very straight, narrow strands tend to fall out. It's frustrating, but it doesn't break the deal. You just have to be careful of where the yarn end is after each stitch so you can pull it back through when it's about to fall out. You get five identical thread needles in this set, which is good if you tend to lose small items or if you want to keep duplicates in different places. I keep my crochet hooks and crochet hooks in a plastic case, so I don't need five needles, but I think they'll come in handy in case I lose them while traveling. Four stars for these yarn needles. They are of good quality and work quite well. Despite the difficulty of carving them, I like them better than the plastic ones. They are easier to work with and shorter, so you won't have any trouble weaving them when crocheting. Recommended for those who need wide eye blunt needles for crocheting, knitting or other uses.
