After reading the reviews of others (many of which were negative) I decided to buy this carafe anyway. Why? First, I like glass vacuum decanters. They keep liquid hot longer than metal, even if the metal is double walled and vacuum sealed. Also the disadvantage of glass is that it will break if you drop it, the solution is not to drop it. However, if you do, they're cheap to replace. No glass-lined decanter I have ever owned is designed to be submerged in water, nor is it necessary. Clean with bottle brush and wipe outside with soapy sponge and wipe dry. If you put it under water or in the dishwasher, it will rust and destroy the metal parts between the glass panel and the outer shell. Do not do that. A lot of the negative reviews have mentioned that the lid is difficult to remove and I agree it's harder than it should be, but a tight lid keeps the heat from escaping. After removing the lid and cleaning the pot before first use, I wet the threads and the lid screws with minimal effort. I'm retired, so if I can do it, so can you. Anyone with arthritic hands should not buy this pot, otherwise I recommend buying it. The discharge when pouring could be a little more, that's the only reason I only give it four stars.
