Review on PCIE WiFi Card Networking Adapter by Katrina Kruger

Revainrating 3 out of 5

Great PCIe card. Recommended

In general, I don't mind using Wi-Fi at home with full-fledged PCs, but I do have a particular edge case. To test peripherals, I set up a framed PC that normally sits on a workbench but is occasionally moved around the house. When I'm mobile, I connect to my local network via Wi-Fi (many Ubiquiti 802.11ac hotspots throughout the house). I used an Edimax Nano USB wireless network card. It's terrible but that's all I had. It's time for a change, so I bought aTP-Link AC1200 PCIe Wireless Wifi PCIe card. As you'd expect, there's almost nothing to configure. I installed the card on a Z370 motherboard (although it doesn't matter which board it's on) with no problems. Usage on Windows 10 and BSD was uneventful. I got over 1Gb/s connection speed (new to me) but the access point is feeding 1Gb/s so it's not surprising that Chariot returned 880Mb/s. The antenna tuning works well, but maybe that's the only weak point. The mini SMA antennas mounted on the card bracket are perfect for me (as I need to carry the test bench easily), but fixed desktop users may get better performance from one of the cards with the antenna nodes removed (so not). hanging behind your metal case, around all your metal cables). highlighted.
