I bought this model because I had intermittent problems with the much older R501 transceiver. In my configuration I installed an X10 active phase coupler on the main panel and a CM11A interface controller. On the R501, commands to dim/brighten a light module sometimes ended with the module number directly above or below, on or off. In other cases, the Dim/Brightness command ran a macro to turn all modules on or off. I figured my air conditioner must be noisy and messing up the X10 commands. The PAT03 is designed to monitor the AC line and only transmit when nothing is being transmitted. It also adjusts the signal transmission level to compensate for noise. It seems my random near commands are gone but now I have a new problem. Commands from my wireless remote often just hang and do nothing. I have to press the button several times before the modules pick up the X10 command. Maybe PAT03 "waits" for a free transmission path? Who knows. X10 is great, mostly because it's relatively inexpensive to implement. However, the powerline protocol is simply inherently vulnerable to today's power supply noise that is everywhere (CLF LEDs, LED lights, laptop power supplies, phone chargers, TVs, etc.). 20 years ago, when the X10 was newer, there wasn't as much electronic noise. Overall, I'd rather not use any code than have every light in the house on while trying to dim a light. Try plugging the transceiver into a different outlet and see if that makes a difference.
