I go to the beach regularly and look for sea glass. I go to the beaches of the Great Lakes region, which are a mixture of sand, small stones, and shells. I always go barefoot on the beach. So the stones sure aren't too numerous or uneven where I walk if I can wear it barefoot. I bought these socks to have less sandy feet and some cushioning. I wore them twice last weekend, for two days. Unfortunately, these didn't last at all. The buttocks are almost completely rubbed against the balls of my feet. Given that I only walked and not that far and mostly on sand, this was very disappointing. I have a feeling regular tube socks would hold up better at the bottom than these. I gave an extra star because they fit well and are comfortable and I didn't have sand on my feet. This doesn't last long, however, when the hole wears out after a few uses. I bought two pairs of these, one for me and one for my daughter. My daughter hasn't tried hers yet, but I can't say I have high hopes that they will be different unless I can't. Sorry, I really wanted to love her, but her strength (and therefore value) is completely lacking. :-(
