This is my second. The former just plugs into the connector but has the option of using a bare 9v or 12v battery saving space for all radio settings etc, seat mirror mileage navigation etc when replacing the car battery. Note: Some vehicles require a firmware flash when the battery voltage falls below a certain level, just under 9 VDC.
