$109 total loss, left me in a snow storm without a plow

I spent hours researching the PerTronix website to find the right kit for my Bosch distributor. It was the same kit that all Bobcat owners use to upgrade their 1.6 liter Ford Industrial Bosch engines. It was the only one on the PerTronix website that even came close to the pictures. And I watch videos on youtube installing the same 1843 kit from the exact same distributor! He approaches the place. that's all. The installed bracket kept the coil too far away from the spinning magnet. more than 1/4". And the rotating magnet wasn't quite seated so as not to disturb the rotor. And yes, I adjusted the flats with the magnet, cleaned the shaft, and even put a light film of grease on the shaft. Well, that Magnet ring snapped. Weird, it fit great after that! There was a snow storm outside so I had to let it run to get us out. I ended up applying UV curable super glue to the cracked magnet (which fit when it broke) I had to then move the mounting arm from where it was attached to set the correct air gap between 10k and 50k this still didn't work I'm an electrical engineer and tried to test the build with everything in the right places I have the coil not pulled to the ground at all let alone let go to create a spark. And no I didn't burn the coil. I had a momentary switch to power the ignition. Previously h But I burned points on equipment by leaving the key with the point on. It will fit all Bosch distributors 1952 1977 and up Obviously this is not the case and they don't have any other kit that even comes close. So I have a $109 piece of junk that I can't return because it's broken and probably never worked. Let's start with this: I ended up having to spend an hour fixing the old set of points. and it started right away! It's a hell of a way to fix your old ignition to try and fit an electronic one!

Pros
  • Igniter
Cons
  • poorly thought out
