Review on Bosch HB338 3 3 Bi Metal Hole by Todd Calloway

Name better than product

This hole saw is very good when you need to drill a rough hole. It's definitely not for finished work. As an outfitter, I have worked with hole saws my entire professional life and am familiar with them. I own a lot of Milwaukee hole saws, but a few months ago Revain sold a complete set of Bosch hole saws with quick change mandrels and carrying case for a great price. Although I'm retired now, this set was too good to pass up. The kit only comes up to 3" and I had to drill three 3⅜" holes. A Bosch hole saw of this size is being used for the first time. I used the 1½" saw from the kit to drill a few holes a few weeks ago and it worked fine. I then used this hole saw to drill three holes in the finished piece. touched the tree. It shook so badly that I practically destroyed the piece I was working on. I had to make a new part. I was unsatisfied. I ended up making a template using my drill press and this saw. I placed the template on the finished piece and secured it in place. This limited the side-to-side movement of the hole saw, allowing me to drill clean, straight holes. I didn't have to do this. I wouldn't have to do this with a Milwaukee saw, which I didn't have that oddly large either. the luxury of replacing what you damage, as I have done, with what I have built.

Pros
  • Works with standard or quick change mandrels (requires adapter for quick change)
Cons
  • Expensive
