Review on EZ Oil Drain Valve Removable by James Oconnor

Revainrating 4 out of 5

Fits my 6.7L diesel Ford.

The review is for an EZ 106 combo with a straight hose end. In summer I usually have to change the oil while driving. That's dirty work because the plug is on the side of the oil pan. The oil will be hot and will spill out when the plug is removed. A few spontaneous solutions didn't work. I bought this for several reasons: it has an anti-sump o-ring; chromed; Supplied with hose end; was cheaper than its competitor. I installed it between oil changes and only lost about 8 ounces of oil. The engine was cold and I used both hands to remove the plug to avoid dropping it and to hold it in place until I plugged the hole with my finger to stop the flow. Next, again using both hands, I inserted the valve into the hole and gently twisted to start the thread. I hand tightened it and then tightened it with a wrench. Hasn't been leaked, but hasn't run much since install. The idea is great and I hope it makes oil changes easier on the road. What I didn't expect was the final placement of the valve and handle. Most pictures show the valve and handle at or near the 12 o'clock position (indicating the top of the oil pan). Mine is in the 5 o'clock position and the valve and handle are protruding slightly from the bottom of the pot. I don't ride a lot off-road, but this position can cause problems. Now I'm happy and don't expect any problems. Only four stars because I haven't used it yet.

Pros
  • Excellent overall performance
Cons
  • I vaguely remember
