I purchased the PetSafe system in May 2011. The collar went out of service in 2016. I don't know why it failed. Roughly six years of use for around $22 a year isn't bad considering we can take this system with us wherever we travel. It costs about $8-$10 every two months since it comes in a two-pack. This particular pack cost the same as the others but included two batteries, which is why we bought it. The color is water repellent, our dog wears it all the time and we had no problems getting sores or calluses on our neck from the collar.
