Review on Time Speciale Pedals Orange Pair by Scott Mauri

Rode Time pedals for years - won't ride them anymore!

I've spent many years riding Time pedals generation after generation. I won't ride her anymore. Five reasons: 1. They tend to fail 5-10% of the time resulting in damage to the bike/you.2. You can't buckle up quickly - if you're descending on a technical trail (or technical and uphill) your only option is to hike, even if you have a strong trail. They often spend 5-10 feet superficially trying to hook the other leg. The supposed benefit of "floating" for your knees is false. Shimano pedals have similar travel, but without the free side-to-side slide of Time pedals (which also changes ease of release depending on position, making it even more patchy).4. They have a very unpleasant tendency to cling to objects (rocks, roots). I kept shaking and almost fell several times. Their design is imperfect and if you hit the bottom of the pedal your foot will be pushed off the pedal. On the other hand, they are long-lived; They don't pay attention to the repeated impact of stones. Although they look shabby and ugly. In this regard, I "upgraded" to Speciale 8 with Time Atac Carbon. My Ember has caused many falls due to its inconsistent release ability. I chalked it up to spring fashion and "modernized". The clipping was a little more reliable --- but NOT reliable. Crashing was very difficult despite the use of adjustment springs. On the other hand, Shimano XT pedals are everything these pedals want: 1. Easy insertion.2. Easily solved (with proper adjustment).3. Good amount of float and very easy on the round.4. Pedal strikes are SIGNIFICANTLY reduced - ones that don't cause bumps or crashes. I have been loyal to Time pedals for many years. The "reviews" say that the Time pedals were on par with other top-end pedals. After many hundreds of kilometers on them (and competitions) I have to respectfully disagree.

Pros
  • Great construction
Cons
  • Crumpled packaging
