Review on Canon 28Mm Cameras Discontinued Manufacturer by Tyler Born

Really good choice for a budget 28mm lens

I like my Canon EFS 60mm f2.8 USM better but this 28mm f2.8 lens compares easily to it (just the focus is louder ). Color, contrast and sharpness are excellent on both lenses. I prefer a 60mm lens only because I'm more comfortable shooting up close without getting too close and I think people are more relaxed when there's space between them and the camera. But if I'm shooting indoors or outdoors in a crowded area, this little lens pays dividends. I don't want to be without him. I also love my ultra cheap Canon 50mm f1.8 lens. It's also very sharp for a budget lens. I wish this 50mm lens had come with my camera. I guess it was a marketing decision - I figured the zoom lens would impress more potential buyers. My camera is a 12.2 MP XSi and I can't afford L-series lenses. I'm a hobbyist on a budget. But with these three lenses and my Canon PIXMA Pro9000 Mark II printer, I can print amazingly sharp images up to 13" x 16". Particularly sharp prints are obtained when recording in RAW format. Large RAW photos are no longer a liability. With all of this, I can't justify buying a more expensive camera or buying L-series lenses. Actually, close-up shots of people are less about sharpness - after a certain point. I also use a Canon EF-S 55-250mm zoom lens with Image Stabilization. At very crowded outdoor events (like urban festivals and sporting events), this lens is pulled into the crowd to capture people in the process of themselves. softens the complexion of subjects and makes them look better in my photos than in real life. Even if I increase the ISO setting, I can get great shots of athletes in action. I especially like this lens for the image stabilizer. This allows me to shoot to the maximum length without a tripod or monopod. I am very happy with my choice of cameras and my lens collection, with the exception of the kit lens that came with the camera. I think it's ok, but it's missing something specific that would make me want to use it. It can only be a zoom lens. It may seem that I have strayed too far from the topic. I did this because I thought anyone looking for a budget Canon 28mm lens could benefit from a broader view of what to buy now and in the future. It's not my fault that I'm a talkative and confident old nutcase.

Pros
  • Excellent overall performance
Cons
  • Doubtful
