Don't expect a bi-directional device!

Hello if you understand the limitations and the price of this device you will not be disappointed. I'm only assuming that because its tablet-like looks might lead some to believe it's the equivalent of a multi-thousand-dollar device, but it's not! It's a lightweight hard plastic that probably won't take a lot of abuse. I agree with that, but I don't see that it takes many drops before it ruptures. But that's to be expected at this price. It appears that the device does not have a battery that can operate on its own as it only turns on when connected to a power source or your vehicle's OBDII port. The first thing I would recommend is to plug it into a power source, connect it to Wi-Fi and give it a few hours to update if it needs to. Now please don't take this negatively because the fact that there are so many updates indicates that the company really cares about the update! They could have abandoned the product from the start, so lots of updates aren't bad, but they will most likely take several hours, like mine. Just download them all and go, come back to download more and repeat the process. Once this was complete I took it to my car and connected it up with no problems. Although the automatic search with vin didn't work on two of my machines. I had to enter my VIN manually, but normal functionality resumed after that. I didn't experience a paywall on my device like some other reviewers did. I hope this won't be a problem for many people as I would be very angry myself if this happened to me too! Overall I am satisfied with its functionality. I am very happy with the ability to read transmission codes, ABS codes, SRS codes and of course engine codes along with some real time data and sensor checks. It will cost you around $400 just to see some possible bi-directional scanners. So consider this a good step before checking if you need anything else besides what it offers. I recommend the device but make sure you update it and check for paywalls. before committing to keep it. Be careful and I hope this review helped.
