In the end, the tube worked. However, in my application, a 2006 Dodge Ram 2500 Megacab with a diesel engine, the hook was on the wrong end. I had to cut and weld it in the right position. It's ok if you have everything you need for it. The muffler has a hanger on each end, so I could use the pipe as is and just not use the hanger for the extension pipe.
