Technically this is the second bookcase I have bought. First one I bought from Wayfair and I really like this bookshelf. The mission style bookcase sold here is EXACTLY the same bookcase but costs almost half what I paid at Wayfair. I wasn't sure if it was the same bookshelf but I saw the pictures and adjusted the sizes so I crossed my fingers it was the same. When I opened the box and saw that the assembly instructions were exactly the same, I danced a little to my delight. The only difference I found was that the Allen key that came with it was a bit shorter than my first bookshelf. Wood, screws, dowels and accessories were exactly the same. Apart from that, my same bookshelf was bought about 6 months ago and is very durable. I have a couple of books on it and it doesn't seem to be a burden on it. It's beautiful and looks like I paid 3x the actual cost. Some reviewers really found fault with this bookshelf and obviously have no idea how much solid wood bookshelves with no faults actually cost. .Hard Tips: I have purchased this bookshelf twice in the color espresso which is dark brown and every scratch reveals bare light wood beneath the surface. To fix this, I simply take a black permanent marker to cover it and immediately wipe the area with a dry paper towel. The marker ink soaks into the wood and the marker ink that falls on the paintwork is immediately removed by wiping. The main thing is to rub / rub small areas and immediately with a paper towel. I'm sure black or brown shoe polish would work just as well, if not better. A good tip, gleaned from Wayfair reviews and used in building my first bookshelf, is to use wood glue on the wooden dowels found at each end of the back shelf. Staples (long thin pieces with wooden "pegs"). In addition to the pegs, also glue loose boards to the sides. Some of them move slightly, showing a bare tree that was hidden before the move. This makes the bookshelf extremely rigid and much stronger. The shelves are pre-drilled with pilot holes for the hex head screws, but before you begin assembly, first screw the screws into the pilot holes to make the threads, then remove the screws and follow the normal steps. Assembly. This makes balancing parts and driving screws much easier. Some have complained about the finish. Yes, this is not a multi-layer polyurethane finish. It's a stain and a light semi-matte finish. If you want it to shine, just use a can/bottle of regular furniture wax spray. It looks like it has 3-4 coats of glossy finish. Again, this bookshelf is half the price of similar bookshelves, so expecting it to have the same finish as a $500 shelf is ridiculous.
