ROCKS Kickstand

I first used 100 watt flex panels for a few years, then a 100 watt Renogy suitcase panel for a few years and now this solid 100 watt panel with Stand to operate my camper since last year. If you're trying to choose between these three styles, buy this panel! Flex panels were great until they went away. They weigh nothing and don't take up space on a large, flat and protected surface - I kept them right in my RV's window frame. 43x22x.1. BUT I completed 5 of them in 2 1/2 years. one swam away when it was snatched from my hands by a sudden gust of wind. another also suffered a wind-related fate, one was inexplicably stratified, and one just stopped working out of the blue. and I've spent quite a bit of time and money finding different frames for them so I can put them on the ground at an angle so they don't get blown away by the wind. It was fun and successful, but it was still work. The Renogy case was a workhorse and still works as part of my kid's fixed standalone setup. BUT it's two 50-watt panels with a metal frame connected with hinges, with a very strong casing that makes the whole thing difficult to slide in and out and takes up a lot of storage space. The panel itself, without its case, measures 20 x 27 x 3 when folded and weighs 27 pounds at 100 watts. But the bad part of the Renogy case was the oddly complex and fragile stand. it requires constant attention. Stones and dirt get caught in the hollow sliding part and prevent it from opening. The nuts that hold it to the frame and to itself are constantly loosening, are an odd size and shape, and are so close to the frame that no tool is useful to tighten them. I constantly worried that this would be the last time my legs would be able to work. Enter this panel. This is the only one I could find on Amazon: a solid platter with a solid stand. At 36 x 26 x 1, it takes up more storage space than Renogy but is only 1" thick compared to 3. And less storage space than flex panels. At 17 pounds, it's a full 10 pounds lighter than the same 100 watts for a Renogy case. and best of all: This stand ROCKS. One piece, no hinges, no guides, no twisting or locking, no hollow slider to collect debris. it just opens and you're done. Every portable solar panel should come with them - if you don't need them, two screws and that's it. The stand is strong enough to put a big stone on the crossbar to keep it from dancing in the windy desert. Whoever designed the coaster for it followed the golden rule: KISS.
