Review on πŸ”² Berolle Wooden Empty Thread Spools: Large Unfinished Wood Spools for Crafts & Weaving (Pack of 24) by Shantel Griffin

Non-Machine Precision

Out of twenty-three were drilled off center. Not bad but enough to make me worry about the rotational force of the machine during use which will cause it to wobble and possibly fly away. If you know anything about drilling wood, you know that the top is smooth, but the bottom can be messy. if the bit is not pressed enough. I decided to grind a lot of them (only one end), although most don't bother. Just wrap some sandpaper around the handle of a small brush and change the paper as needed. It took about five minutes for the whole bag. Do this over something to collect dust. Actually better than expected for the money. I prefer wood over plastic and they are very durable, just like grannies. I bought these because some of my old plastic spools are deteriorating (biodegradable plastic apparently) and they will last forever. I'll use the three off center for another project ;-)) Edit - I was able to use my machine to transfer the thread to the new spool by removing the spool stopper (it's just screwed into the body) and the new spool started on the winder. It's a bit noisy because it's so high, but it's a lot quicker than doing it by hand ;-)) Just remember to guide the thread so that it runs the full length of the new spool, not just staying down like at a coil. At first, winding by hand (without twisting the thread) took several hours, and on a typewriter - minutes. To be honest I struggled with the original spool crumbling, so I had to be careful as most of the time it was full transfer spools.
