Doesn't dim - overpriced

Media could not be loaded. For what it is an item it is very overpriced. This is a simple on/off smart socket. It works well in that regard, but other companies are offering the same thing for a lot less money. The problem is that it's just an on/off plug. When used on a light in a room, paired with other Hue lights and a Hue remote, the experience is significantly different. I already have two lamps with Hue bulbs in the room and when you turn them on/off with the remote they turn on/off fine together. I got this plug because I have a 3 bulb light fixture I'm adding to this room and it made more sense to control the entire bulb than to buy 3 smart bulbs. However, this plugin doesn't offer the same experience. There is no on/off dimming and no option to dim the bulbs. All or nothing. For a smart plug/socket, that makes sense. You don't want to give half the power to an electronic device like a radio, coffee maker, etc. However, Hue is marketed specifically as a "smart lighting" product line. Yes, there are non-dimmable bulbs on the market, but Hue needs to be consistent in your experience from one Hue product to the next so they complement each other, or at least allow you to turn them off when you need to. Another big competitor from the brand sells a smart plug specifically for lighting, which lets you dim the bulbs connected to it and offers a soft, smooth on/off that matches their switches and is almost the same as Hue bulbs is. When interconnecting devices of this brand, all associated light sources (lamps, switchable light sources) flow into one another. As a smart on/off plug, it works well. Easily connects to the Hue app and works with Google Home voice commands. It makes an audible click of the relay as it turns on and off. This is consistent with other equivalent on/off plugs I have, but added a bit more annoyance when I was in the same room with nicely faded (and quiet) Hue lights. In the attached video you can hear the remote control clicking, but if you listen closely you can hear the smart plug clicking in the background. As for the Hue product line, I'm otherwise very satisfied. I have 4 different brands of smart switches/bulbs at home that were driven by significantly different needs in different locations (4-way wiring with no neutral, switch with no neutral with no dimming, low priority items justifying the cheapest option). ). I use Hue specifically in a room where I don't have switchable lights, so adding a Hue remote paired with lightbulbs scattered around the room worked great for me. Managing different brands from one centralized app (like Google Home) has simplified managing different brands. I got 3 more Hue bulbs for the lamp instead and will be returning this plug. In the very long run this will be less cost effective, but it seems much more inappropriate.
