Review on 💻 Enhanced VGA USB Compact KVM Switch - IOGEAR GCS632U 2 Port by Douglas Hall

Fast switching and excellent performance

Fast and easy to use. So far this has been a very good KVM switch. I only use it for USB and haven't tried the VGA or audio options. Very good is that both mouse and keyboard are combined in one USB input for each receiving computer. This frees up an additional USB port that would otherwise be occupied. There is nothing to complain about in terms of the speed with which it switches from one computer to another, it is very fast. This is especially important if you regularly swipe back and forth to reply to chats or other things that require fairly quick replies. It's not big and bulky and doesn't look terrible on a table. I have the wires behind my desk because I don't want them to be up and this causes the switch itself to go forward. But it still remains on the table. My keyboard has a USB input, which I plugged the mouse into before switching, and then just plugged the keyboard into the computer. I tried to use the same configuration with the switch in the beginning but to no avail. It looks like the mouse and keyboard need to be plugged into their respective inputs separately. Also, I've hooked this up to a Mac and PC with a Windows based keyboard. The ScrLk shift key was fine until I noticed it dims the display on a MacBook. I checked the manual and read that you can toggle input to [Ctrl][Ctrl] for Mac. Unfortunately the instructions were wrong. I was able to find instructions on how to change this properly. Instead of holding NumLk and then pressing "-" for a second and then releasing two and pressing "t", you should, while holding NumLk, quickly press "-" once, release both and press "t". Overall, this is a great solution and definitely worth the money.

Pros
  • Convenient hotkey port selection
Cons
  • No performance
