Install the tool on the drive side crank. Thread the tool into the crank by hand, being careful not to twist the tool. The instrument fits perfectly. Apply a slight twist with a wrench to ensure the tool engages and engages all available threads in the connecting rod. No need to use force here as I just wanted to make sure the tool touched down. Replace the plunger portion of the tool by hand, being careful not to cut the threads of the tool. Once this part fitted onto the crankshaft, I began applying torque to push the crank back. Unfortunately, when applying the torque, I felt that the connecting rod was not removed, but rather the threads in the connecting rod were being pulled out. This tool successfully removed all of the aluminum threads from the crank and left the lever attached to the spindle. I was able to easily remove the lever on the non-drive side, but I suspect the drive side is much tighter and requires more force than can safely be applied with this tool. DO NOT USE THIS TOOL TO REMOVE THE ALUMINUM HANDLE.
