Disconnect BOTH ends of the cable, connect the adapters BEFORE turning on the power or very bad things will happen
The first installation is perfect. Second Setup I casually plugged in the power on one side before unplugging the AT&T cable modem on the other side. Melting has occurred in the modem. Turned off immediately. the modem still works (fingers crossed). Haven't tried it yet, but I suspect you have to be very careful connecting the adapters to BOTH sides of the cable BEFORE using POE or face to face with magic smoke. Very important!
