I am an open water instructor and have had or used several different fins, Nova is a class above, try them and you won't be satisfied with anything else. They're very effective at both flapper and frog kicks, and yes, they pull back well too. A bungee heel and large loop make it easy to get on and off. They are slightly positively buoyant, which I really like. Most of my dives are shore dives in rivers and lakes with poor visibility. The preparation often takes place in the water, and if I drop one of these I don't have to look far for it. The only downside I have to the fin is the acceleration. It takes a few hits to pick up speed, but the top end is fast, very fast. In terms of size, I use a Mares Triboot 5mm size 12 with a hard sole. The chart recommends big, hardly. I found the fit too tight for my taste and opted for the X-Large. This fit seems perfect.
