This blender is very powerful and I like the programmed settings. My problem is that the low speed is not low enough. I used to have a variable speed Vita Mix. His level is very low. I have a few recipes that work best when I can completely remove the lid and add the ingredients as I work because they mix better and don't stick or stick together at the edges. You can remove the center of the lid and the opening is larger than the Vita Mix, but not big enough to scoop up thick liquids or powders without making a mess or wasting ingredients. It has a speed fast enough to mix most thick liquids (brown rice syrup or honey) that stick to the walls and loosen powders (cocoa or cinnamon). However, I prefer not to end up with a foamy mixture. A nice feature is that the glass is shorter and wider. It fits under standard wall cabinets when stored on a motor base. Does not apply to Vita Mix. The Vita Mix tends to overheat, especially when left on low for long periods of time, although once switched off it works fine once it has cooled down. Blendtec was very well priced and had a good warranty.
