This is a quality product but I haven't found a cheese slicer that washes easily without putting it in hot dish soap and water. You can vary the thickness of the cut by using it at different angles, which takes a little practice. I use it on chilled butter sticks to cut 1/8 inch buttered slices for toast. No need to use it with weak wire. One of the legs has a screw that pushes the brass connector further into the instrument. and you can make it as tight as you like. The slots that hold the wire end caps are slightly rounded so I haven't had a problem with wire breakage.
